It is with great sorrow that we say good-bye to Tom. I had the pleasure of working with Tom for several years in the 70's-80's and always found him to be a great inspiration to all. His positive attitude was contagious and we enjoyed many lively conversations. Tom was a great guy and a blessing to everyone he touched. Our deepest sympathies to his family.

Reflecting on Tom's tenure with Purdue University Libraries.

How many phone calls did Tom make during his 34 years at Purdue?
How many reference letters did he process?
How many interviews did he arrange for students, staff, and faculty?
How many delicate situations did he handle?
How many events did he help plan and host over the last 34 years?

Tom served as our teacher, our counselor and most importantly our friend.

He taught us about respect and appreciation for each others individual diversity and our human rights.

He counseled many of us about work related issues and often provided us with guidance in our personal lives.

He offered us friendship by helping us move into a new job, a new apartment, and even our new homes.

For those of us who knew Tom, we are ever grateful for his dedication to Purdue Libraries staff and his fun-loving outlook on life. He will be missed and remembered as an important part of our lives.

Message from John W. Duncan - Indianapolis, Slater Hill 'Tailgating' Friend
August 20, 2016 11:26 AM

Our tailgating experience at Slater over many years would not have been the same without Tom's humor, kindness, sharing, being the perfect host and his great home cooked recipes!
Tom was the first to arrive to stake out his favorite spot, and the last to be 'game ready, as he policed the area, and stored everything away. His planning was always perfect, and he made sure everyone was well fed, and had a great time before each game. The game it self over time, became secondary to the great gatherings that Tom always perfectly planned for each home game. And, no one made better chili than did Tom for a late frosty October home game! We will all miss our buddy Tom, not only for all of this, but also for the friendship he blessed each of us with. We pray that God will keep and watch over him until we are all gathered around the best of all tailgating venues, while seated at the big table with our Creator. God speed Tom! J. W. Duncan - Indianapolis PS: One last time for you Tom, "Go Boilers!'

I was honored to work with Tom in Purdue Libraries for many years. He was a great colleague, an excellent listener, and had an empathetic heart toward other people. My wife Becky and I have wonderful memories of him and pray his family will feel God's comfort as they remember his life of service.

My heart goes out to each of you. Tom touched so many lives. I will always call him Dad. He was everyone's cheerleader. He always saw the best in people. He was the life of the party and always made us laugh. I will miss him everyday.
