Virginia M. Cumberland

Virginia M. Cumberland 101, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 8:30 P.M., Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Wynnfield Crossing, Rochester, Indiana.

She was born on February 7, 1922 in Kokomo, Indiana. On May 3, 1946, in Bluffton, Indiana, she married Joseph Alva Hedger. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1975. On October 25, 1981, she married Vernon Cumberland and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1995.

Virginia worked in production as a tool and die maker at Lau Industries, Rochester, for many years. She was a longtime member of the Kewanna Baptist Church as well at the First Baptist Church. She fondly shared her memories of her life in Kokomo, when the children would come to her home to sit around her table for cookies and milk. Virginia enjoyed farming with her husband, fishing, gardening, and all activities of her church.

Survivors include her dear friends, Shirley James, Kewanna, Indiana, Donnie Kohls, Rochester, Indiana, and other friends she made over the past century. She was preceded in death by her mother, Garnet (Cummings) McKillip and brothers, Lewis Cummings and Gene Cummings.

  Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday August 29, 2023 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may visit one hour prior to service Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery, Kokomo, Indiana.
