Thomas Nelson "Tom" Townsend, 63, Rochester, Indiana, passed away peacefully at Woodlawn Hospital in Rochester, Indiana at 4:33 am on July 29, 2024. He had been diagnosed with laryngeal cancer early 2022 which progressed to lung metastasis.
Tom was born into a large family on May 31, 1961 in Peru, Indiana to Howard Edward "Eddie" "Shorty" and Ruth Maxine Clelland Townsend.
He enjoyed hunting in his younger years and traveled the country to broaden his horizons before returning to Peru, Indiana where he worked as a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Robin Elaine Townsend Gordon, and three brothers, Howard Edward Townsend, Jr., Clayton Townsend, and Howard Nathan Townsend.
Survivors include brothers, Michael "Mike" James Townsend , Logansport, Indiana, Robert Eugene Townsend (wife Heather Townsend), Florida, Jon Warren Townsend and Edward "Eddie" Dundee Townsend, both of Pensacola, Florida, sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Elaine Townsend Klock, Peru, Indiana and Felesia "Pebbles" Elaine Townsend Ackley (husband David Ackley), nephews, Michael Klock, Nathan "Nate" Brown, Nicholas "Nick" Brown, Robert Eugene Townsend, II, and Christian Edward Townsend (and his wife Samantha), nieces, Penny Crystal Townsend, Melody Adeline Townsend, Laura Ruth Townsend, Brenda Gail Trisha Bartholomew, Joy Noel Ackley, and Serena Ruth Townsend, aunts, Susie Hughes (and her husband John Hughes), and Nancy Baker; numerous cousins too many to mention; and all his friends far and wide.
The family wants to express their deepest thanks to Kevin and Sarah Doss and their family for allowing Tom to live with them for the past two years and the care they provided. They were such good friends that Tom considered them part of the family. Words cannot express our gratitude for your kind deed by giving of your time and devotion. They are true unsung heroes.
Funeral arrangements are pending. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Peru, Indiana.
