Sara Hoffman Obituary

Sara Jane Hoffman 80, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 10:03 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at her residence.

She was born on March 9, 1939 in Kewanna, Indiana, the daughter of Clurel T. and Jeanette (Mutchler) Hunter. On August 27, 1961 at the Prairie Grove Church in Kewanna, Indiana, she married Howard Hoffman and he survives.

Mrs. Hoffman received her Bachelor and Master Degrees from Indiana University. She had worked as a Biology/Chemistry Teacher, State Farm Insurance Agent, Medical Technologist, and in retirement, along with her husband, owned and operated the Sears Store in Rochester. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Tri-Kappa Sorority, Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls and had been a board member for the Rochester-Lake Manitou Chamber of Commerce. She spent many hours volunteering her time with various organizations, including the Community Foundation and Hope Hospice. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing euchre, bridge and enjoyed traveling with Howard, especially wintering in Orange Beach, Alabama.

Survivors include her husband, Howard Hoffman, Rochester, Indiana, children, Monte and wife Debbie Hoffman, Rochester, Indiana, Tiffany Raidy, Avon, Indiana, Melissa and husband David Gamel, Lewis Center, Ohio, grandchildren, Alicia (Sean) Hoover, Cincinnati, Ohio, Christopher Hoffman, Rochester, Indiana, Spencer Raidy, Avon, Indiana, Edward Gamel, Lewis Center, Ohio, four great grandchildren, sisters, Donna and husband Steve Rude, Rochester, Indiana, Cynthia and husband Larry Biggs, Logansport, Indiana, brother, Phillip and wife Cherlyn Hunter, Crawfordsville, Indiana, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Dianne J. Smith, Nedra Hurley and Linda Lou Hunter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday December 23, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may visit from 2-6 P.M. Sunday at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana and one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Melissa Hoffman Gamel Scholarship Fund through the Northern Indiana Community Foundation.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanbrosfh.com
