Roy Swartz

Roy Swartz 92, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at his residence.

Roy was born on February 29, 1932 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Friendy and Vera M. (Moore) Swartz. On September 1, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana, he married Mary Marie Baumgartner. She preceded him in death on April 6, 2017.

Roy and his family moved to northern Indiana in 1956 where he worked at Stewart Coach Industries in Bristol.  He later started his own businesses including Job Site Mobile Offices.  In the early '70's he returned to Rochester with Job Site.  After selling Job Site he was self- employed in construction.

A life-long music lover, Roy played in several municipal bands on the clarinet and saxophone.  He and his wife loved square and barn dancing. In Elkhart, he had converted his hay barn to a barn dance center.

Survivors include his daughter, Sandra E. Van Tilburg, Middlebury, Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Voris Swartz and Nick Swartz and sister, Elizabeth Nelson.

Private interment will take place at Athens Cemetery, Athens, Indiana with a memorial service to be announced later.
