Phillip "Phil" Carr Obituary

Phillip Carr, 91, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 10:48 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2024 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport, Indiana surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 29, 1933 in Fulton County, Indiana to Madge Carr and raised by his grandparents, Fred and Nettie Carr.  Phil was a 1951 graduate of Rochester High School, Rochester, Indiana. On October 5, 1958, he married Kelsa Mae Reffett at the Fulton Baptist Church, they enjoyed 64 years of marriage until her passing.

Phil was a U.S. Army veteran serving from 1953 -1955 during the Korean War. 

Phil retired from Rochester Telephone Company after nearly 40 years with the Company.  He served on the Rochester Water Board for a number of years.  He was a member of The American Legion.  Phil was involved during his children’s early years with coaching softball/baseball.  He served on Rochester Little League board. He helped establish the girls’ softball diamonds at the Fansler Field, the site of the old RHS Fansler football field.

Phil is survived by son, Greg (Teri) Carr and daughter Greta (Ron) Lynch, all of Rochester, grandchildren Jared (Dasha) Lynch of Rochester, Ryleigh (Deanna) Carr of Culver, Chaneigh Carr (fiancé Wayne Speer) of Rochester, and Aaron (Kristen) Lynch of Valparaiso, great-grandsons Aiden Lynch, Camden Vanata, Jaxon Carr, Jace Carr, and a great-granddaughter baby Lynch expected to arrive by next week, brother, John (Linda) Milliser of Rochester and sister-in-law’s Lottie Kotterman of North Carolina, Donna Reffett of Carmel, Indiana, and Ida Reffett of Arizona, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kelsa Carr, and granddaughter, Sidneigh Jo Carr.

A graveside service at the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Indiana will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 28, 2024, where military honors will be conducted.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to NICF-Sidneigh Jo Carr Memorial Fund, 227 E. 9th Street, Rochester, Indiana 46975.
