Jack Nickels Obituary

Jackie (Jack) Lee Nickels 80, San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Fulton County, Indiana, died of COVID on Dec 16, 2022, at Northeast Methodist Hospital in Live Oak, Texas.

He was born on December 3, 1942, to Berneice (Conrad) and Lora Nickels, in Rochester, Indiana. He married Marian Kastner on Dec 19, 1964, in South Bend, Indiana. She preceded him in death on September 16, 2008. Jack graduated from Fulton High School in 1960, and Tri-State College in 1967 with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

He worked as a Chemical Engineer at a variety of plants in OH, NY, NJ, LA, IN, and IL. He retired in 2011 from Evonic in Mapleton, IL. He moved to San Antonio, Texas to be near his son, Kevin and family. Jack was heavily involved in Scouting for many years, joining the movement in 1980 with his son, eventually serving as Scoutmaster for Troop 348 in Lafayette Indiana. Jack was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, boating, and outdoor cooking, he most enjoyed time with friends and family. He sang in many church choirs over the years and the highlight was singing with St Anthony’s Camerata Festival Choir from Peoria, Illinois before the Pope in Rome.

 Jack is survived by a sister, Connie (David) Lehman of Mobile, Alabama, daughter, Laura (Ron) Crowell, Pekin, Illinois, son, Kevin (Elizabeth) Nickels, four grandchildren John, Mark, Margaret, and Katherine Nickels of San Antonio, TX

Visitation will be held at Porter Loring Funeral Home (2102 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX78232) from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on December 26, 2022. Services to be held at the Calvary Temple AOG (14335 O' Connor Rd, San Antonio, TX 78247) at 2:00 PM on December 27, 2022.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 6, 2023, at the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Cancer Society at http://cancer.org. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana.
