Ira Milam Obituary

Ira Milam 61, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 2:27 A.M. Wednesday, February 5, 2020, at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, Indiana.

He was born on September 20, 1958 in Como, Mississippi, the son of Charlie and Frances (Lomax) Milam. Ira worked various jobs including managing high rise buildings in Chicago, Illinois.

Ira loved fishing, hunting, going to the casinos to play flaming “7’s” and Keno. Earlier in life, he was an active member of his bowling league. In the warm months, Ira enjoyed gardening, especially tending to his elephant ears, being under his carport tinkering with his machinery he had picked up at yard sales and auctions from around town. He was an avid viewer of the Outdoor Channel’s white tail deer shows, often providing his own commentary for those less successful hunters.  Many will remember Ira from seeing him riding around town on his electric chair, his kind heart to help others when he could, singing karaoke during his nursing home rehabilitation and being that of a great father.

Ira is survived by his companion, Sheila Rowe, Rochester, Indiana, his fourteen children, including, Ira Milam Jr. and Fantasia Velez, both of Rochester, Indiana, Alesha (Steven) Burts, Tanesha Thomas, David Covington, all of Robinson, Mississippi, Darrell Mason and Donta Mason, both of Memphis, Tennessee, many grandchildren and great grandchildren, brothers, Matthew (Vanola) Milam, Evanston, Illinois, Albert (Tina) Milam, Memphis, Tennessee, Jackie Milam, Omaha, Nebraska, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles Milam, James “J.V.” Milam,  sisters, Alberta M.P. Westbrook, Joyce M. McClurge Turner.
