Gerald R. Newton 94, Fulton, Indiana, passed away at 1:31 A.M. Thursday, June 13, 2024 at his residence.
He was born on August 13, 1929 in Seneca, Illinois, the son of Ralph Manley and Bessie N. (Byerley) Newton. He graduated from Fulton High School in the late 1940’s. His first marriage was to Candy R. Gernandt and she preceded him in death on September 20, 1983.
Gerald retired from the United States Air Force after twenty years of service having served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later owned and operated the Appliance Center in Fulton as well as being a traveling salesman throughout the country. He had also been a tour guide for Fantasy Caravan having toured over forty- seven countries. He had been a member of the Fulton Baptist Temple and the Fulton Masonic Lodge. In his spare- time he enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include his children, Laniya (Roy) Borden, Colfax, Indiana, Connie Lucille Edwards, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Cynthia Lynn Custodio, Albuquerque, New Mexico, ten grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margeret “Peg” Newton, daughter, Christine Halas, siblings, Pete Elbert Newton, Mary Ann Newton, Lois Gundrum and Dorothy Baird.
No services are scheduled at this time. Private interment will take place at Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Indiana. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanbrosfh.com
