Donald “Donn” T. Taylor 63, Lake Station, Indiana, passed away suddenly at 8:37 A.M. (CDT) Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at St. Mary Medical Center, Hobart, Indiana.
Donn was born September 2, 1959, in Bremen, Indiana, the son of Robert and Rose (Davis) Taylor. He grew up in Walkerton, Indiana where he graduated from John Glenn High School in 1978. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. On August 9, 1986 in Argos, Indiana, he married Damita Jo Ritter and she survives.
Donn proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps for nine years where he learned his trade as an aircraft mechanic. Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he started his career with American Airlines as a licensed commercial aircraft mechanic servicing countless aircraft at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois for thirty-five years before retiring just two years ago. Donn had been a member with the Transport Workers Union of America and had received an associate degree in Computer Science from Ivy Tech Community College. Donn loved to travel and was an avid Harley-Davidson lover. He made many trips on his Harley to Sturgis, South Dakota and in his retirement was able to go on his dream trip to Hawaii twice. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather, he will be truly missed. Though his spirit is now with God, his love and memories will live on with his family and friends.
Donn is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-six years, Damita Jo Taylor, Lake Station, Indiana, sons, Joshua (Meredith) McKinney-Taylor, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jake Taylor, Indianapolis, Indiana, was a loving grandfather, “Papaw Donn”, to his two granddaughters, Lydia Marie and Clara Rose McKinney-Taylor, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, his grand dog, Max Taylor, Indianapolis, Indiana, siblings, Nancy Bowers, Knox, Indiana Theresa (Jim) Collings, Walkerton, Indiana, Ron (Myrna)Taylor, Florida, Barbara (Phil) Lee, North Liberty, Indiana, mother-in-law, Annetta Ritter, Rochester, Indiana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Bishop Richard Ritter and brother-in-law, John Bowers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. (EDT) Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may visit from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. (EDT) Saturday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be observed at the funeral home following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald T.
