Darla Greer Obituary

Darla Jean Sayers Greer 80, Kewanna, Indiana passed away at 12:20 P.M. Thursday, October 24, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on August 26, 1939 to Elston Hiram and Darline Vivian Lemmon Sayers in Pulaski County, Indiana.

Darla was a 1957 graduate of Winamac High School. She married her husband, Robert “Bob” Greer, on April 12, 1959, and they had 37 years of adventures before his passing in 1996.

Darla never let any grass grow beneath her feet. From the time she was a toddler, she rode and owned horses. After she and Bob married, they bought their first Arabian horse in 1960. She continued to own, raise and show Arabians for the rest of her life, traveling throughout Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Darla and Bob were also members of the former Kewanna Saddle Club, which was started by her father and uncle.

As a child, Darla was involved in the local 4-H club and Rural Youth where she met Bob. She and Bob were involved in the Fulton County Horse and Pony Club, serving first on the advisory board before Darla then served for 35 years as the Fulton County Horse and Pony Leader. She also led the Horse and Pony judging team and Color Guard for many years. She loved to go horse camping with her family.

Like her mother before her, Darla loved to bake T-rings and brought many baked goods to the 4-H fair, church, and to her co-workers at the hospital. She attended her grandchildren’s 4-H and school events, and was well known for making wedding, birthday and graduation cakes for family and friends.

Darla was also one of the first EMT’s for Fulton County, and served on the Fulton County EMS at Woodlawn Hospital for 28 years before retiring. After retirement, she continued to volunteer monthly with the Woodlawn Auxiliary and volunteered in the gift shop.

Darla and Bob also served several years as Foster Parents. She was a member of the Arabian Horse Association, the Indiana Trail Riders, the Fulton County Extension Chorus, and an active member of Rochester Church of Christ. While attending the Kewanna Church of Christ, she was a Jr. High Sunday School teacher and choir member.
