Charles Leon Baird 94, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 11:40 A.M. Monday August 23, 2021 at Chase Center, Logansport, Indiana.
He was born on October 14, 1926 in Fulton, Indiana, the son of James Beveridge “Bev” and Lorene (Kern) Baird. He served with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. On June 28, 1947 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, he married Dorothy L. Newton and she survives.
Mr. Baird had been a mechanic for International Harvester for over forty years and retired from T.M. Morris Manufacturing in Fulton. He had also been a farmer, a member of Fulton Baptist Temple and the Fulton Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Baird, Rochester, Indiana, daughters, Nancy (Johnny) Thompson, Twelve Mile, Indiana, Stella (Hiram) Hoover, Grass Creek, Indiana, Karen (Bob) Mundy, Logansport, Indiana, nine grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, sister, Sharon Baird, Fulton, Indiana, brother-in-law, Gerald Newton, Fulton, Indiana, sister-in-law, Bonnie Newton, Riverside, California, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother, James B. Baird, and sister, Maxine Yater.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the Fulton Community Center, E. Dunn Street, Fulton, Indiana. Friends may visit from Noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the Community Center. Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton, Indiana, where military graveside services will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans’ Honor Guard.
