Robert W. Rhodes, 87, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 6:30 A.M. on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, Indiana.

He was born on August 20, 1929 in Akron, Indiana, the son of Winfred Courtney and Emma (Hoppes) Rhodes. On April 15, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana, he married Carolyn S. Cumberland. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1994. In June of 1996, he married Donna J. Jarrette Polley and she survives.

Mr. Rhodes had been an electrician for McMahan –O’Connor Construction in Rochester. Early in life, he had played in the Chicago Cubs Minor League farm teams. He had attended the Community Presbyterian Church, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Donna J. Rhodes, Rochester, Indiana, children, Stephanie and husband Mark Nafziger, Rochester, Indiana, Stephen and wife Deb Rhodes, Logansport, Indiana, Susan Whitehair, Albany, Indiana, step-children, Margot Denger, Carmel, Indiana, Lee Ann Stinson, Raleigh, North Carolina, grandchildren, Scott Miller, Courtney and husband Luke Bowyer, David Rhodes, Abigail and husband Lucas Wright, Whitney Whitehair, Morgan Whitehair, Macy Whitehair, great grandchildren, Grayson Bowyer, Isabella Rhodes, Charlie Wright, several step grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughters, Skylar Whitehair, Natalie Rhodes Gerhart, son-in-law, Charles Whitehair, step-daughter, Susan Kirk, one sister and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday May 28, 2017 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may call from Noon to 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Presbyterian Church or the Natalie Rhodes Gerhart Scholarship Fund through the Cass County Community Foundation.
