Katherine "Kathy" D. Penrose

Katherine “Kathy” D. Penrose 84, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 6:55 P.M. Monday June 24, 2019 at Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester.

She was born on December 12, 1934 in Greenville, South Carolina, the daughter of Charles and Kate (DuPre) Mabe. Kathy graduated from Furman University and the Greenville Hospital School of Nursing and started her professional career in nursing.

Kathy worked as a Registered nurse for many years. She had served as Director of Nursing at Hickory Creek of Rochester. She previously was a nurse at Greenville General Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina,  the Health Center at St. Joseph College and Doctor’s offices in Rensselaer, Indiana. She had been a member of the Rochester Rotary Club, Rochester Elks’ Lodge and the Furman University Alumni Association.

Survivors include her children, Kenneth and wife Carmen Zawodny, Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, Mary Griffin and companion Lee Lovelace, Nashua, New Hampshire, Patty Zawodny, Toledo, Ohio, Stephen and wife Mary Zawodny, Erie, Michigan, eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one sister. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 27, 2019 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester, Indiana. Friends may call from 10:00 -11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanbrosfh.com
