John Jacob Mutchler, 94, Rochester, Indiana, passed away at 7:00 A.M. on Monday August 29, 2016 at his residence.

He was born on October 26, 1921 in Kewanna, Indiana, the son of Howard H. and Vida M. (Collins) Mutchler. On July 22, 1945 at the Kewanna Baptist Church, he married Margery Louise Wilson and she survives.

John was a 1939 graduate of Kewanna High School . He was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific as a turret gunner on the TMB Torpedo Bomber, serving in 136 missions from Guam to Okinawa. He worked in Quality Control at Bendix Corporation, South Bend, Indiana, working on helicopter engines for over twenty years. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, fruit trees, roses, and experimental roses.

Survivors include his wife, Margery Mutchler, Rochester, Indiana, children, Thomas and wife Sharon Mutchler, Rochester, Indiana, Stuart and wife Terry Mutchler, Rochester, Indiana, James and wife Shirley Mutchler, Rochester, Indiana, Selena and husband Roger Rouch, Kewanna, Indiana, nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and a sister, Frances Herrell, Oxford, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald “Pete” Mutchler, sisters, Josephine Tuley, Isabelle Alice Mutchler Linden- Cooper, Jeanette Hunter, Ruth Lease, Martha Reeser, and Pauline Mutchler.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana, with Rev. Bob Metzger officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Fulton County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Disabled American Veterans. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros.
