What can I say that all of you stated already. I apologize in advance for my rambling condolence. I tried to cut back but it kept getting longer.
I am honored to call my neighbor AL a friend (my best Friend) I became disabled in 2013 and My wife Kathy and I moved next door to AL and Janet in July 2014. I knew the very first time I talked with him and Janet that we had moved to the right place. They made us feel at home and really came across honest, caring and they were funny of course.
I am not a very religious guy but I believe there was some divine intervention causing us to move next to Janet To Al.
I was at a pretty low point in my life after having my legs amputated and feeling sorry for myself. AL helped me and made me feel like a man and to get some confidence back.
It was nothing specific he said but it was everything he said that gave me the confidence to succeeded and enjoy life. He made me remember how very fortunate I was to have a family backing me and to be alive. The bait shop would have never opened without his help and encouragement. I wonder if I would even be alive today without his help. I sincerely mean that from the bottom of my heart.
We talked multiple times per day in the bait shop I learned a lot and we both laughed l lot. We had some great times and he shared a bunch of stories. He loved to tease my wife when she would come out of the house on a cool spring morning with her ear muffs on. He would say there you go again wearing those ear tabs when it’s not even cool out or when it warmed up he would ask her where her ear tabs were.
He always lends a hand when needed. He mowed the yard for us last year when our mower was breaking down and even this year when the mower was fixed he mowed half of it saying he didn’t want to make my wife break a sweat. Of course, that was all in fun. The last time he mowed it he said that was his Mother’s Day present to my wife.
The last day I saw Al I was telling him I was allergic to something I was sneezing my head off and I had never had any trouble before with allergies. Al says well I will tell you what a doctor told me when I told the doctor I never had allergies before; the doctor replies you had never been this old before.Last good laugh we had, he could make me cry laughing at a joke he would tell. Now I just cry because I miss him so much.
I just hope he realized how much I thought of him and how much he helped me. My wife and I loved him dearly
Rest in peace AL and thanks for the help, memories, the good cooking and grilling you shared.
Jim and Kathy

Al was not only a joy to work with from a business perspective, he was a great friend. After he retired, Sue and I would look forward to the times he and Janet would stop at the Radio Station and tell us how much they were enjoying retirement. It would, of course, make us jealous. I remember the time at the appliance store with the outside temperature over a hundred degrees that Al and I tried to fry an egg on the sidewalk. Neither of us would eat it. Al's sense of humor and his ability to understand people will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Al was an awesome neighbor and great friend! He was always smiling and his laugh was infectious! He enjoyed sharing a good story or joke, fishing tips, a plethora of good advice, and always offered a hand or solution when needed. We will miss him greatly. We feel blessed to have known him and hold his memory in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Fred & Kathy Shavey
